Why hookup apps work differently in every country
The app everyone uses at home can be a ghost town two borders away. Each country has its own casual dating sites, often in the local language only, plus the international apps that expats know. A site that dominates in Sweden may not exist in Spain, and some of the biggest casual platforms in France or Germany have no English version at all.
That is why we rank hookup apps country by country. For each country we list the casual sites locals actually use, say which ones you can use in English, and add the free international apps worth keeping on your phone.
How to read our rankings
- Casual sites first. Sites built for no-strings dating come first, because everyone there is looking for the same thing.
- One mainstream option where it helps. In some countries a large dating site sits in our top 3: it is not a hookup site, but it has the biggest pool and many members open to something casual if you say so upfront.
- Language matters. Every listing shows the interface language, so you know where you will need a translator.
- Free versus paid. Most casual sites let you sign up and browse for free, then charge for messaging with credits or a subscription.
Safety basics wherever you are
Meet in a public place first, tell a friend where you are going, and keep the first chats on the platform. Consent can be withdrawn at any time. Nobody genuine asks a new match for money, and a profile that pushes you to another site or app straight away is a red flag.
